International Women’s Network In Estonia

About Us

We are an NGO that focuses on efforts helping international migrant women in Estonia.

We seek to strengthen women’s voices with our activities. We are in the constant process of building a safe space for sisterhood through communication, connection and support.

We advocate multiculturalism, gender equality, and the empowerment of women.

Our Story

Beginning in early 2020 with a Facebook group for Spanish-speaking women (native and non-native speakers) our network has grown organically ever since. In this group, women have the opportunity to communicate their life situations in Estonia, find support and advice, and share knowledge regarding feminism, culture and more.

As women in our group began to speak up about their experiences of domestic and gendered violence, we realized that a stronger support structure was needed to face this issue together and give a platform to migrant women in Estonia.

We are aware that domestic violence is an issue that affects all societies of the world, as violence does not respect geographical borders. Women are already vulnerable for being women worldwide, yet, being an immigrant adds an extra layer of vulnerability that we believe is not being voiced in Estonia yet.

This is our motivation to grow our efforts, and the reason why the NGO called International Women’s Network in Estonia was born.

Ukrainian Cultural Day

May 28th 2022

Location: TV Tower (Kloostrimetsa tee 58a)

28.05.22 // 12.00-18.00

Free admission

On May 28, the Ukrainian Cultural Day will be held in Tallinn. This is a unifying event where Ukrainians, away from home, will be able to share their culture and traditions with the local and international community in Estonia.

  • The organizers of the Ukrainian Cultural Day are the MTÜ International Women’s Network in Estonia and Tallinn TV Tower Foundation.
  • Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homes after Russian troops invaded Ukraine and who have been able to find refuge in Estonia will join the event, together with Ukrainians who already call Estonia “home”.

Many Ukrainians now need moral support, especially those who have recently arrived. Moreover, the vast majority of temporary migrants are women and children. Therefore the International Women’s Network in Estonia has taken the initiative to organize an event that will unite Ukrainians, allow them to get to know each other, and make visitors closer to Ukrainian culture, cuisine and traditions.

“Our goal is to give voice to migrant women, as well as to strengthen the support and collaborative networks of all minorities in Estonia. Bringing people together through events of cultural diversity is a way to celebrate differences and of making visible the efforts of small businesses that need an extra push” –  Dalisa Cisneros, board member of International Women’s Network in Estonia.

  • The event will feature Ukrainian food and music, screenings of Ukrainian films, master classes for visitors of all ages, and a fair.

Everyone is welcome to come and learn more about Ukrainian business, talents, and skills. This is an opportunity to celebrate multiculturalism and learn more about the people of Ukraine, their culture, and their background.

Ukrainian Cultural Day will occur at the Tallinn TV Tower, a welcoming international site of symbolic importance to Estonians, which supports community building events and cultural diversity.
